Healthy Schools

What is the Healthy Schools Award?

This Wiltshire Council programme is provided to support schools effectively address the health and wellbeing of children and young people.

Royal Wootton Bassett Academy is committed to using a whole school approach and teaching Personal, Social, Health and Economic education, with the aim to actively promote learning and healthy lifestyle choices. Currently there are 142 schools who are part of the Wiltshire Healthy Schools Programme.

The Wiltshire Healthy Schools programme demonstrates the effective provision of:

  • A Whole School Approach to health and wellbeing.
  • PSHE education across all year groups.
  • Healthy Weight (incorporating Healthy Eating and Physical Activity)
  • Emotional Wellbeing and Mental Health.

RWBA currently has the Bronze level award and is working towards silver by taking part in a variety of projects and research with the help of University research teams but also trialling software from the commercial sector. Some of the projects that we have been involved in include:

  • MiHub (Proreal and West of England Academic Health Science Network)
  • Year 9 Social Media Use and Young People’s Mental Health (Bristol University and NIHR)
  • Frank Friends Trial

Each of these projects has a central goal of promoting young people’s healthy choices in life.
