German
The aims of the RWBA Modern Foreign Languages department are:
- To provide students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to effectively communicate in the target language.
- To provide students with the ability to understand and engage with the target language in written and spoken form.
- To promote cultural awareness and appreciation in countries where the languages are spoken.
KS3
During KS3 at Royal Wootton Bassett Academy pupils will study one of either French, German or Spanish. Through this, we hope that pupils will learn to appreciate different countries, cultures, communities and people. They will also gain insight into their own culture and society. Pupils will cover a range of topics, which will enable them to gain a greater confidence in expressing themselves in the target language. The content and detail for what is covered in each term will vary according to set, allowing for greater challenge or consolidation where
required.

KS4
The GCSE course in German develops to a higher level the four skill areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Students work for the main part in the foreign language, developing both their fluency and their knowledge of vocabulary and language structure. They deal with up-to-date spoken and written materials, using video and the internet. The course enables students to communicate in the spoken and
written language in a variety of contexts, which relate both to their own experiences and to those of people in the countries where the language is spoken.
There are three broad themes:
1: Identity and Culture
2: Local, national, international and global areas of interest
3: Current and future study and employment
