Physical Education and Sport in 6th Form
Physical Education and sport continue in KS5 with an offer of 2 courses for pupil to access as examination options. In addition to our offer of exam courses we offer access to physical activities and sport through allocated curriculum hours where pupils have the opportunity to utilise the sports facilities at RWBA. We also look to enter local, county and national competitions to provide competitive opportunities in a variety of traditional school sports.
BTEC Sport course
The Pearson BTEC National Extended Certificate in Sport is intended to be an Applied General qualification for post-16 learners who want to continue their education through applied learning and who aim to progress to higher education and ultimately to employment in the sport sector. The qualification is equivalent in size to one A Level, and it has been designed as a full two-year programme when studied alongside a further Level 3 qualification.
A Level Physical Education
The Physical Education GCE or A level specification gives learners a clear appreciation of key issues in Physical Education including physiological, psychological, and cultural factors, a focus on performance in practical activity, and the opportunity to pursue particular areas of interest. This is a linear course the culminates in 3 exams at the end of year 13. These exams are complemented by 2 non examined assessments in the form of practical performance and an oral evaluation and analysis of performance for improvement.
